Attendees of Milan Fashion Week Men’s Fall/Winter 2018 set the tone for this season’s street style, which pushed out neutral minimalism for a more vibrant maximalism that centered on mixing textures and patterns.
The overall vibe drew in some ’70s styling elements, with prominent sartorial motifs such as corduroy, furry coats and retro stripes and check patterns. Knitwear made its anticipated return for the cold season in the form of cable knits and vintage shawl neck sweaters, while military-inspired outfits sustained its streak with XXL proportions and detailing. There was also a spotlight on heritage menswear prints, particularly Houndstooth and Glen plaids, which came mostly in reference to Gosha Rubchinskiy‘s Fall/Winter 2018 collaboration with Burberry.
The standout styling approach was pattern-on-pattern and tone-on-tone pairing, as seen in the ensembles that mixed a check print button down with orange/red check prints trousers; a rainbow-striped jacket worn with contrast stitch denim and striped leggings; leopard print joggers with 2 Chainz‘s leopard print Versace x Chain Reaction sneakers; and the monochrome mustard yellow coat and corduroy pants combo.
Runway shows at Milan Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2018 that especially championed these style themes include Diesel, Marni, Versace, Missoni, Gosha, Palm Angels and Prada. Also make sure to check out our street style trend coverage at Pitti Uomo and London Fashion Week.
